Applications will be available beginning October 21 and are due November 15. All of our 5^th graders are welcome to apply to this specialty program for advanced learners.

Hard to believe, but it is time to start thinking about middle school! All 5^th graders can attend their zoned middle school for 6^th grade (based on your address) or apply for the IB Program at Moody Middle School. Students in our Gifted Zone can also apply for the Gifted Young Scholars Academy (GYSA) at Wilder Middle School.

What is the IB Program? The International Baccalaureate Program “aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.”

If you are interested in learning more about the IB Program, please plan to attend the IB Open House on October 25 at Moody Middle School  at 4:30pm or 6pm in-person or virtually. Students in our Gifted Zone (Ms. Poland’s class) should be receiving information about GYSA and its application process directly from the Gifted Programs Office. Applications will be available October 21 through School Messenger. The GYSA Information Night will be at Wilder MS from 5-6pm on October 26 (virtual and in-person). The application is due November 15.

Attention 5th Grade Families!

I know we just started the 5^th grade year, but it is already time to begin thinking about middle school! Your child has an opportunity to apply to attend the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program at Moody Middle School.  According to the program’s website, the IB Program, “includes a comprehensive curriculum for students who are highly motivated and who have demonstrated the ability to achieve academically. In addition to a well-rounded selection of courses, students focus on developing a wide variety of skills to help them think critically, organize carefully, communicate appropriately and reflect purposefully.” All of our 5^th grade students are welcome to apply to this specialty program for advanced learners.

If your zone middle school is Wilder, you should attend an Open House for the IB Program at Fairfield Middle School on October 3, 2019. Here is the flyer:  Fairfield Open House. The majority of our students would attend IB at Moody.

I encourage all parents and students who are interested in this program to attend the Open House with their child.

Applications will be available beginning September 18 and are due to me by November 15, 2019. If your child would like to apply for this program, please let me know.
