Hard to believe, but it is time to start thinking about middle school! All 5th graders can attend their zoned middle school for 6th grade (based on your address) or apply for the IB Program at Moody Middle School. Students in our Gifted Zone can also apply for the Gifted Young Scholars Academy (GYSA) at Wilder Middle School.
What is the IB Program? The International Baccalaureate Program “aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.”
If you are interested in learning more about the IB Program, please plan to attend the IB Open House on October 25 at Moody Middle School at 4:30pm or 6pm in-person or virtually. You can also visit https://henricoschools.us/ib/. All of our 5th graders are welcome to apply to this specialty program for advanced learners. Students in our Gifted Zone (Ms. Poland’s class) should be receiving information about GYSA and its application process directly from the Gifted Programs Office. Applications will be available October 21 through School Messenger. The GYSA Information Night will be at Wilder MS from 5-6pm on October 26 (virtual and in-person). The application is due November 15.
