3D Animal Adaptations

Lesson Summary

Students used their knowledge of habitats and animal adaptions to create a new animal. Once students had their ideas on paper, they drew them on the iPads using Pixie. To make these animals come to life, students created their 3-Dimensional Animals which were later printed using a 3D printer!

Rating:Approaching – Explanation: Students chose which source to find information about the animal of their choice (reference books, websites, and PebbleGo) and wrote answers to their questions using graphic organizers and pre-written questions.

Communication & Collaboration

Rating: Ideal – Explanation: Through the use of their digital tools, students were able to communicate with their partner to collect research, collaborate ideas, and construct their 3-Dimensional animal.

Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

Rating: Approaching – Explanation: Through the use of TinkerCad, students were given the task to create their animal using geometric shapes and manipulate their locations in order to produce their creature.

Creativity & Innovation

Rating: Approaching – Explanation: Students used characteristics of animals that they chose to research collaboratively with a partner in order to create an original and authentic creature with technology. Upon completion of the project, students were able to present their creations and explain their animals, why they chose them, and what features/adaptations they had.
