Media Influences and Public Awareness

Summary

Students worked with a partner of their choice to make a commercial that tells the dangers of alcohol or drugs. In this lesson, the students used information they learned in class Media Influences in relation to Alcohol and Drugs, which is part of the Life Skills Curriculum, as well as, online information. Students were given a rubric that described the teacher’s expectations for the assignment. Students completed the assignment during one class block..

TIPC Ratings

Approaching – Students synthesized their knowledge and research to create a PSA/commercial. Students assembled and organized their learning to create their final product.

Although students were working together, this category was not a focus for this lesson.

Developing – Students applied critical thinking as they determined what information and which media strategies to use when creating their commercial.

Approaching – Students designed an original commercial to influence individuals’ perception and use of drugs and alcohol.
