Summary

Students were asked to identify a current problem/need centered around safety and come up with an innovative solution. Students work collaboratively to develop products including an ad, drawing, product, and presentation. Students attempt to sell their product idea to a panel of experts at the conclusion of the lesson.

TIPC Ratings

While the focus of this lesson was not research primarily, the lesson scores high in this category. Students were given some sources to start with, but they were encouraged to utilize all sources available. Students had to utilize search techniques in locating accurate information Students assembled information about their product into a presentation (advertisement).

Students worked in self-selected groups in this project. They brainstormed roles to complete the project and divided tasks into roles in order to complete them. There is group and individual accountability built into the lesson. Students utilized a variety of digital tools for communication and collaboration. Students were asked to collaborate outside of the school.

Students chose their own problem to solve in designing a product. These problems were highly relevant and authentic. They were asked to defend their product using digital tools and in a final presentation.

This project scores high in this category. Students were asked to identify a current problem/need and come up with an innovative solution centered around safety. Students worked collaboratively to develop multiple creative and innovative products including an ad, drawing, product, and presentation. Students had to take risks within the project and during the final presentation as they attempt to sell their product idea to a panel of experts.
