Lesson Title: La Danza Latina (Latin Dance)

Length: 3 days (90 minutes total)

Summary

This collaborative lesson allows students in the upper level classes to study and teach the culture of the language through dance. Students will choose and research five Latin dances, learn the steps to each, and teach the dances to the lower level students. The students in the lower level class then take what they have learned and create an instructional video that will be available for staff. Students will use their knowledge as dance instructors to offer Latin dance lessons during the Community Fair.

Approaching-the students are choose what websites to use, what questions will best guide their research and what media to use and what dances to include in order to assemble and organize the information in the authentic task of teaching a dance and creating an instructional video.

The students use appropriate digital tools to transmit the information to lower level classes and are establishing group norms as they fulfill their chosen roles and coordinate the filming process. Students learn from each other through the created lessons and videos and share that information with the school and the community through the lessons available on CD and at the Community Fair.

The students must decide which media best suits their needs; they must find the best location to film and plan how to implement the objectives.

Students decide what dances to perform, what outfits to wear, what music to use and how to best carry out the instructions to perform the selected dances. Student choose the best technology to both teach the lessons and create the videos.
