Scientific Websites

Summary

The students will brainstorm and identify an area of interest in science. They will develop research questions and research their chosen topic. After researching, the students will collaborate with other students who identified similar areas of interest and groups will be formed based on their chosen topics. Students will input their research into a google doc so that they can share their findings with their group members. They will compare and contrast existing websites to determine what they believe a successful website should look like. Groups will organize their research and collaboratively design, develop, and publish a website using weebly so that they can share their topics with others.

TIPC Ratings

This lesson falls into the ideal/target range for research and information fluency. The students generated their own questions, they worked as a team to research their topics, students used a variety of resources such as books, websites, encyclopedias and online resources to gather information on their topics. Each group developed a checklist to rate their digital sources.

This lesson falls into the approaching range for communications and collaboration. The students shared information through googledocs and collaborated in group meetings. They displayed their research through their websites so that parents and students could view and discuss websites through classroom blogs.

This lesson is in the ideal/target range for critical thinking and problem solving. The students employed critical thinking skills when creating pertinent questions they wanted answered, analyzing their research, and choose the most relevant information on their websites. The students used problem solving to discover ways to work effectively as a group, to compromise and to create a successful and informative website.

This lesson is in the ideal/target range for creativity and innovation. The students used a variety of computer applications and resources to create their websites. They used innovation to constantly reevaluate their websites in order to improve them. They also gave a received feedback through classroom blogs.
