Presenting the Fabulous Famous Americans!

Summary

Third graders’ curiosity was piqued after learning about various Famous Americans. To discover more, they researched using a variety of search engines. They used Google Docs to compile their information. They shared their research and knowledge of Google Presentation with another class in order to create Google Presentations about the Famous Americans to be posted on our classroom blog.

The super-cool part of these two 45-minute lessons was watching students get excited as they saw others working at the same time on their Docs and Presentations. From a Technology standpoint, they began to grasp real world applications of how Google Docs and Presentations could be used across the internet. From a history standpoint, they were astounded at all the things that the Famous Americans did that are not included in the “must know” information.

Students chose their own search engines, evaluated and gathered information. They took their information and shared it with another class to create a new presentation.

Students worked as a class to compile information into a digital form. Students became the “teachers,” communicating and collaborating with another class to create a new presentation.

Students had to think critically to answer questions posed by students in the other class. (These lessons didn’t lend themselves to Solving real-world problems outside of working with Google Presentation.)

Students made decisions with tools, photos, backgrounds, layouts, themes, etc. to create an original Presentation.
