Mapping the Southeast U.S.A – 4300

Summary

Students are diving into learning about the regions of the United States of America. To help students gain a better connection with the states, they will research and create web pages as if they were in charge of tourism for a particular state. The web pages the students create will include geography, historical facts, fun facts, and pictures. These web pages will be posted on a Google Map and posted on my blog so other students throughout the United States can learn more about our America. Good Citizenship will be discussed by having students helping needier schools where students are having a tough time with Southeast region topic and where students may not have an advantage of visiting these states.

TIPC Ratings

This lesson is approaching with research. Students have generated questions about their state and are looking in appropriate areas to find this information. Students do cite their sources but do not have to rate the usefulness which keeps it from being ideal.

This lesson is low with collaboration. Although everyone is collaborating for one common cause of the Google map, students are researching and working independently. Communication outside the confines of their classroom is beginning to be reached by publishing their work for others can view them.

Critical thinking is rated as ideal because the teacher is asking higher level questions which in turns leads to more questions being asked. As teacher and students ask these questions, students in turn research something that will make their web page stronger. Students also have to think of the best layouts, colors, styles, etc. to make their web page appealing to the public.

Creativity is rated as ideal because every student has the option to make their web page with their own original ideas and thoughts. Although everyone is making a web page, they all look different and appeal to a different audience.
