Approaching – Students were required to discover the market value of handcrafted pens in order to make an informed decision concerning the price point at which they would market their pens.  Additionally, students used appropriate information sources and tutorial to help them with use of Photoshop in development of their logo and components of their marketing campaign.

Approaching – The teacher created an environment where students were accessing knowledge of outside experts to develop their own knowledge and skills. The teacher encouraged students to work collaboratively within teams throughout the semester on each aspect of the project by giving feedback to one another and assisting with mastery of skills for crafting the exotic wood pens.

Ideal – Students decided on the most appropriate digital tools used in completing the various tasks associated with developing their business.  The teacher reviewed aspects of the business creations and provided feedback on individual work and team submissions before final voting was done. Students evaluated issues and errors during pen creation in order to determine next steps and solutions to minimize waste of resources when making pens.

Ideal – Students created an original business from the ground up.  They create all aspects of marketing and managed all sales.  Student synthesized lessons from the ITRT, an outside expert as well as tutorial resources on the internet to create all aspects of their business. They utilized their own design experience to create a unique personal pen idea and made that pen a reality using the production facilities in class.
