Henrico County Letter to Visitor

Summary

Summary: Students will complete this assignment as a cumulative project in their Henrico County History Program. Students will use the knowledge that they have gained about Henrico County history, geography and economy to reply back to a letter that was written to them asking for information about the county. Students will use relevant websites, Google Earth and Pages to create a letter/brochure with accurate information, suggestions and pictures about places of interest in Henrico County.

TIPC Ratings

This lesson is Approaching in Research and Information Fluency. Students decide what information to include in their products to guide their research. They must also choose between websites and Google Earth to locate the necessary information.

This lesson is Developing and Communication and Collaboration. Students will work in groups in class to help each other meet the goal of creating an informational brochure/letter. Students will assist peers located around them that may have questions or need advice.

This lesson is Ideal in Critical Thinking and Problem Solving. Students will generate and respond to a question that was brought to them through a letter from someone outside of the county. Students will then use problem solving skills to decide where to locate needed information and then apply those resources into creating a finished project.

This lesson is Approaching in Creativity and Innovation. Students will create an original piece of work that is meaningful and purposeful in the situation that they have been presented with.
