Summary
Students participate in a study of Christopher Columbus to enhance knowledge of the famous person. Lesson is center-orientated with students working with a partner. Partners have been pre-assigned to offer collaboration between special education students and general education students. Writing journals were previously made by students (dyed with tea to resemble old manuscripts). Teacher will monitor and assist with higher level questions. Lesson incorporates technology, writing, research, reading, and math.

This lesson is Developing in Research and Information Fluency. Teacher provides support while students acquire, develop, and apply information. Students construct questions to guide research while completing the WebHunt and must analyze the information gathered.

This lesson is Approaching in Critical Thinking and Problem Solving. Students work with open-ended questions and justify decision-making. Students compare their life to the life of the young Columbus to make an authentic learning experience.
This lesson is Developing in Creativity and Innovation. Students work within parameters to create their own ship in Pixie.
