Stop Motion Animation: Local Advertising

Summary

Students worked in small groups to create a stop motion animation video which advertises a local business. Students worked collaboratively with a business owner to create an advertisement which positively represents the business. Completed projects were shown on each business’ website.

TIPC Ratings

This is an example of a Target lesson for Research and Information Fluency. Students worked independently to research internet sources on their own to discover how to best create their advertisement as well as how to use the programs they have chosen. Students were given the choice of whichever programs and applications worked best for their project, including Adobe Photoshop, Windows Moviemaker, I-movie, Audacity, etc. Students demonstrated understanding of ethical art creation by selecting copyright free music or creating their own original music to accompany their video.

This is an example of a Target lesson for Communication and Collaboration. Students worked in collaborative teams with actual businesses in the community. Students were responsible for keeping their client updated with the projects’ progress. Students created their own original works which are displayed on the internet to be viewed globally.

This is an example of a Target lesson for Critical Thinking and Problem Solving. Students used client questionnaire as an open-ended resource to develop an appropriate video. Students chose the type of animation which worked best for their concept and then chose technology which would work appropriately. Students sought out tutorials to assist them with limited teacher assistance.

This is an example of a Target lesson for Creativity and Innovation. Students worked in collaborative teams to produce original artistic videos for real world clients. Student products were posted on YouTube.com and client websites and are viewable worldwide. Some videos required students to individually edit dozens or even hundreds of images in Adobe Photoshop to make the videos look professional. One student group created a video advertising the Godwin Visual Arts Department, which was used by middle school teachers in feeder schools to advertise the arts to rising 9th graders. As a result of this project, students were approached by school library staff to create a video advertising the Henrico County library program at all levels. This project is being completed by individual students outside of class.
