Summary

After having been introduced to the three types of rocks covering SOL 5.7, the students will work in small groups in order to create a Keynote Presentation about either sedimentary, igenous, or metamorphic rocks. The students will incorporate facts about their rocks that they gathered from a variety of sources which include: books, encyclopedias, websites and hands-on experiences (i.e. examing rocks). Students will also incorporate pictures into their presentation which come from websites, as well by using the Proscope. Students will take pictures of rocks and incorporate them into their presentation. Using the Blabberize program, the students will make their “rock” talk, sharing additional information about their rock. The students will Skype with a geology expert from a local university in order to gain insight or confirm collected information about their rock. The students will then present their rock presentations to another fifth grade class.
