September 27

Thanks so much for all of the birthday surprises!  It was a fun day to spend with a bunch of 5 year old children!  A friend of mine asked me if I was taking the day off to celebrate and I responded with ‘No—-what better way to celebrate a birthday than with children who love to celebrate birthdays!’  Thanks again for making me feel so special!

Just a reminder that Young Scientist money ($16)  is due by Monday, September 30th. You may pay online with the directions that were attached to the Young Scientist sheet, or send in a check made payable to KES.

Picture Day is Tuesday, October 1st.  We will be taking our pictures in the morning right after our resource.

This week we explored the letters Pp and Gg.  Children learned about proper letter formation and sounds that the letters make.  We met two more Alphapet characters through our stories as we journey through the alphabet.  Gertie the Grungy goat was their favorite.

We worked on making, extending and identifying patterns all week with many different items.  Children read about Twizzlers and made paper Twizzler patterns.  Children are learning how to label their patterns as well with As and Bs.  For example,  if a child is making patterns with red and yellow leaves and he/she makes red, red, yellow, red, red, yellow, the pattern would be labeled AABAAB.  One highlight of the week was when we were wearing our patterns—-patterns were all over our clothes!  We also graphed fall leaves by their color.

In our Social Science Unit, we continued to explore the season of Fall.  We wrote about activities that we like to do in the fall and painted a picture to go along with it.  We also used positional words to place leaves in the correct place in a mini-booklet.

As we enter next week, remember that we will have a 1/2 day on Monday and dismissal will be at 11 AM.  We will begin to learn about the letters Hh and Cc.  Children will continue to learn about seasonal changes as well as our first historical figure for the kindergarten year, Johnny Appleseed.  We will be exploring apples and doing many math activities with them.  We will also be introduced to our new Author of the Month, Jerry Pallotta.

Have a great weekend!
