Week 18 Update

Happy Friday!

I have been very impressed at how focused our class has been this week! We have learned about the sun and its relationship to the Earth in science. The students practiced rotation and revolution and pretended to be the sun and Earth.

In reading we have continued to be better readers by focusing on what we are seeing in the text by looking at the pictures and words. We are reminding ourselves to ask questions about the text to help us make predictions and connections.

In math we are working on part-part-whole story problems. In class we have learned some fun station games to help us with our sums up to 10 and beyond!

We had a wonderful lesson about Martin Luther King Jr. and the impact his efforts made on the world. We made our own crayons self-portraits to represent the diversity in our classroom! See pictures here!

Here is what we are learning this coming week.

We have had quite a few sick students in first grade this week. Please see the following important note from our school clinic to help keep our class healthy!

Parents- as a reminder, the following is the Henrico County Public Schools ill student policy. These measures are in place and must be followed to ensure a healthy learning environment for ALL students.

Students should not be in the school if they have the following:

A fever of 100.4 degrees or greater before taking a fever-reducing medication.
Vomiting or diarrhea because of illness
An unknown rash or possible contagious condition (requires MD note before return)
Are unable to focus due to: pain, chronic health condition and/ or acute illness
Flu-like illness (with or without fever)- headache, fatigue, cough, aches, weakness, and sore throat.
A child should be free of symptoms of contagious disease (fever, vomiting, diarrhea, suspicious rash, etc.) for at least 24 hours before returning to school. If your child has been vomiting or having diarrhea, they should also be able to eat a full meal without any GI symptoms.
