Communication – Production

  • Maintain a self-directed sketchbook/journal and process portfolio demonstrating independent research directly related to artistic processes and studio work (AIV.1)
  • Demonstrate mastery through a culminating portfolio that exhibits quality, concentration, breadth of experience, technical skill, and development over time in the following areas (AIV.2):
  • Works of art that exhibit an understanding of human proportion, composition, and spatial relationships
  • A comprehensive concentration that exhibits in-depth grasp of composition, technical skill, and personal style
  • Examples of two-dimensional works extensive enough to show a knowledge of space and function throughout the portfolio
  • Select a range of subject matter, symbols, meaningful images, and media to communicate ideas, themes and personal expression (AIV.6)
  • Use the artistic process to refine and inform artistic vision/voice (AIV.3)
  • Demonstrate safe use, proper care and maintenance of all art tools and supplies

  • Investigate and describe careers in the visual arts in relation to personal skills, artistic aptitudes, and interests.  (AIV.12)

Analysis, Evaluation and Critique

  • Interpret works of art, including personal work, in order to construct meaning (AIV.13)
  • Identify, analyze, and apply a variety of criteria for making visual judgments

Aesthetics:

  • Discuss how aesthetic responses to art are different from judgments about art
  • Explain how personal experiences and values affect aesthetic responses to works of art  (AIV.17)
Communication – Production

  • Demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge of the elements of art and the principles of design in works of art.
  • Demonstrate confidence, sensitivity, innovation and advanced skill in applying media, techniques, processes, and craftsmanship to achieve desired intentions in works of art (AIV.5)
  • Select a range of subject matter, symbols, meaningful images, and media to support personal, creative intentions (AIV.7)
  • Use experimental techniques to reflect a personal, creative, and  original problem-solving approach

Aesthetics

  • Recognize the relationship between sculpture and architecture
  • Investigate public art to include murals and sculpture
  • Use experimental techniques to reflect a personal, creative and original problem
  • Begin the process to exhibit works of art as part of the artistic process, including selecting and preparing works and writing supporting documentation and reflective statements (AIV.9)

  • Express in writing or using other media processes, artists, art styles, and cultures influencing personal works of art
  • Analyze form and function of contemporary art and design
  • Research trends in contemporary sculpture and time based media
  • Describe how art and culture reflect and influence each other. (AIV.10)

Analysis, Evaluation, and Critique

  • View art exhibitions and write personal criticisms about them (AIV.15)
  • Critique sculptures or contemporary media works of art
  • Describe the effects that architecture, sculptureand contemporary time based media may have on groups, individuals and cultures
  • Study, analyze, interpret, and relate the aesthetic qualities of other works of art to personal work
  • Participate in portfolio critique in small and large group settings

Aesthetics

  • Analyze how aesthetic qualities of other works of art influence personal work

Communication – Production

  • Make final selection of culminating portfolio works to show evidence of quality, concentration, and breadth of work produced throughout the high school art program
  • Document portfolio selections using appropriate electronic or contemporary media
  • Exhibit works of art as part of the artistic process, including selecting and preparing works and writing supporting documentation and reflective statements
  • Demonstrate personal responsibility and integrity for ethical procedures including copyright laws when producing works of art
  • Refine a series or sequence of related works based on a personally developed concept or theme (AIV.4)
  • Identify materials and techniques to specific to printmaking processes
  • Use personal positive studio habits including persistence and goal setting
