  • Expand study of art, its history, aesthetics and criticism.
  • Study elements and principles of design using a variety of media including computer.
  • Collect portfolio works; increase art vocabulary and understanding of visual culture.

Communication – Production

  • Expand the use of a sketchbook/journal by adding preliminary sketches, finished drawings, critical writings and class notes (AII.1)
  • Keep the sketchbook/journal as a work of art and artistic reference resource
  • Employ the visual problem- solving process in the production of works of art
  • Develop proficiency in an expanded range of drawing media to plan for and create works of art (AII.10)
  • Explain and demonstrate the difference between a working sketch and a finished drawing
  • Utilize a variety of techniques in the illustration of a form (cross- hatching, stippling, contour line, etc.)
  • Utilize a full range of value levels in drawing from observation
  • Apply multiple methods for creating the illusion of depth in a drawing (linear perspective, overlapping, shading, spatial relationships, atmospheric perspective) (AII.9)
  • Demonstrate the effective use of the elements and principals of design.
  • Properly care for and use drawing materials and equipment.

Art History/Cultural Context

  • Identify artists and visual arts resources within the community
  • Examine and discuss social, political, economic, and cultural factors that influence works of art and design  (AII.13)
  • Describe various art-related, post secondary educational and career opportunities  (AII.16)
  • Express and use positive ethics of integrity in all digital  forums exemplifying the CCPS core values of respect, honesty, responsibility, accountability

Analysis, Evaluation and Critique

  • The student will use constructive critical approaches to critique (formative, peer-to-peer, self-reflective, summative).  (AII.21)
  • Participate in class critiquesand criticisms based on one or more established models (ex. Feldman, Broudy, Barrett, etc.) (AII.18)
  • Support opinions by reasoned processes

Aesthetics:

  • Demonstrate the ability to reflect on and analyze personal responses to works of art and design (AII.24)
Communication – Production

  • Develop an understanding of the properties of color media
  • Differentiate among media used in color processes
  • Use historical subject matter and symbols as inspiration to produce works of art
  • Create works of art to express personal beliefs and values (AII.6)
  • Plan and use a color scheme in an original painting.
  • Identify and prepare a variety of painting surfaces for painting.
  • Properly care for and use painting materials
  • Demonstrate proficiency and craftsmanship (artisanship) in the use of a variety of art media (AII.3)
  • Select and prepare two- dimensional works of art for display (AII.11)
  • Develop positive studio habits to include engagement, persistence,  reflection/revision and goal setting

  • Identify works of art and artistic developments that relate to contemporary and historical time periods and locations (AII.12)
  • Discuss or write about art history using an correct art vocabulary
  • Understand and demonstrate proper behaviors in gallery, museum and public spaces

Analysis Evaluation and Critique

  • Describe, analyze, interpret and judge works of art
  • Support opinions by reasoned processes
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the communication of ideas in personal personal meaning and purpose in a work of art

Aesthetics

  • Describe how the perception of quality in works of art shifts over time.  (AII.22)
Communication – Production

  • Employ elements of art, principles of design, and a variety of media to express meaning in works of art and design (AII.8)
  • Identify methods of creating three- dimensional imagery to include carving, casting, modeling, assemblage, and installation
  • Understand the use of an armature
  • Create works using the subtractive and additive method
  • Produce artwork that demonstrates and understanding of three- dimensional art media with emphases on sculpture.
  • Demonstrate and understanding of the importance of technique and a high level of craftsmanship in creating three-dimensional artwork.
  • Use traditional and nontraditional media and concepts as inspiration to create works of art (AII.4)

Art History/Cultural Context

  • Identify works of art and artistic developments that relate to historical time periods and locations
  • Discuss, write or present about specific artists, time or movement in art history
  • Examine and discuss societal conditions that influence works of art
  • Study the sculptural artists of the Impressionist and Post Impressionist periods

Analysis, Evaluation, and Critique

  • Use art criticism skills when analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating personal and professional works of art and design (AII.17)
  • Identify and analyze characteristics of works of art that represent a variety of styles
  • Critique  by describing interpreting, analyzing and evaluating a sculpture

Aesthetics

  • Demonstrate the ability to reflect on and analyze personal responses to works of art and design  (AII.23)
Communication – Production

  • Employ the visual problem-solving process in the production of original works of art.
  • Identify the four major printmaking processes:  Relief, intaglio, stencil, planographic
  • Proof and pull a signed edition of prints
  • Create a series of prints using intaglio  technique.
  • Use contemporary media, tools, and processes to create works of art (AII.5)
  • Apply and justify ethical choices when creating works of art and design (AII.7)

Art History/Cultural Context

  • Identify and examine works of art in their historical context and relate them to contemporaneous historical events and personalities
  • Study prints from the following styles and periods:  Impressionism,  Post- Impressionism, Romanticism, English printmakers of the 19th century.
  • Describe traditional and nontraditional media and subject matter in works of art in relation to historical and contemporary meaning.  (AII.14)
  • Identify common characteristics of works of art and design that are presented as a series or sequence (AII.15)

Analysis, Evaluation and Critique

  • Critique prints by describing, interpreting, analyzing, and evaluating
  • Self evaluate works of art based on pre-determined criteria
  • Define and practice ethical behaviors when responding to works of art and design (AII.20)

Aesthetics

  • Investigate how art and design can be viewed from a variety of aesthetic stances/theories (AII.25)
