Happy New Year!/Week of 1/6/20

Dear families
I hope that 2020 finds you happy, healthy, and full of good cheer for the new year! I am excited to see our children tomorrow and begin a new month, and year of learning together! If you haven’t already, take a moment to have your student clean out their backpacks, lunchboxes, and remember to bring all library books back to school so they can check out something new!
This week in reading we will be learning about plot, theme, and summarizing fiction. The students will explore literature from around the world, especially fables from long ago. We will be writing summaries and learning about spelling endings and homographs in word study. I math we will learn about equivalent periods of time, review telling time to the five minutes, and time to the minute. If you have an analog clock at home you can help practice this skill by saying “time check” at random times and telling tie together. In science we will review life cycles of plants and animals.
