Juniors that have a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher, are invited to apply for induction to the National Honor Society. Maymont Youth Leader Opportunity
The Family Easter Volunteer Leader Program is a competitive, 15-hour volunteer program for outstanding students ages 15-18. Through this 5-week program, participants will learn the basics of volunteer management and get the opportunity to practice their new skills by serving as a volunteer manager for Maymont’s annual Easter celebration. Participants will oversee one to two activities and a group of volunteers at the event.
Upon successful completion of the program each participant will receive a letter of recommendation from the Volunteer Coordinator that can be used for college admission or job application, as well as 20 community service hours. Volunteers must be present on April 20th to receive their volunteer hours and to get a letter of recommendation.
The program schedule is as follows. Please list any conflicts on your application:
Saturday, March 16th: 10am-12pm Learn about Family Easter and the activities.
Saturday, March 23rd: 9am-12pm: Lead a volunteer group through Family Easter prep project.
Friday, April 19th: 6pm-7pm: Final questions, get materials.
Saturday, April 20th: 8am- 4pm: The big day! Leaders will manage their activity and volunteers.
Assignment: Volunteers will submit feedback on their activity for next year.
Interested students must submit a volunteer application, a one page cover letter about their interest in the program and why they would be a good fit, and one reference letter from a teacher, employer or other volunteer supervisor. Applications due to Volunteer Coordinator by February 27.

Summer Job and Camp Fair- February 21st
Deep Run PTSO will be holding their 12th annual Camp Fair and alongside of that we will be hosting a Job Fair. The Job Fair consists of camps looking for students to hire over the summer; this is a great way to help your students find a summer job and gain some experience. It is a free event and there are no fees associated; the event is from 5:30 – 8:00 pm on February 23, 2019 in the commons of DRHS. ASVAB Test- March 7th
The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is the military entrance exam. Seniors and juniors considering enlisting in any branch of the military should plan on testing at Godwin High School. In addition to serving as the military entrance exam, it is also measures developed abilities and predicts future academic and occupational success. After completing the test, students will also attend an interpretation session to explore potential careers, even if they do not plan on ever entering the military.
This year, GHS will offer the test on March 7, 2019. The test will begin at 9:00 and should conclude by 12:30. Students are responsible for any missed work.

Exploring- Law & Government Program
The law firms of McGuireWoods and WilliamsMullen are collaborating to offer a Law & Government Exploring Post for high school students to learn about the different career fields in Law. The information and orientation meeting will be on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 6:30pm at McGuireWoods Law Firm, (Gateway Plaza) 800 East Canal Street, Richmond, VA 23139.

UVA Society of Women Engineers- High School Visitation Program
The Society of Women Engineers at the University of Virginia invites high school sophomores, juniors and seniors to apply to the High School Visitation program on Saturday, November 17th, 2018. The program gives young women a comprehensive look at the different engineering fields and UVA’s engineering curriculum through informative speakers, panels, lab tours, and hands-on design activities. The program is designed to benefit participants with all levels of engineering experience, but targets those students who are not yet familiar with the field and may be interested in applying to engineering schools or pursuing a STEM career.
To apply, students should complete the HSV Fall 2018 Application which can be found on the UVA SWE Website (https://www.virginiaswe.org/hsv).
This fall session particularly targets high school seniors, but sophomores and juniors can also apply. Students who have previously applied to HSV, are in the targeted grade level, and demonstrate a strong interest in engineering through their essay will receive priority acceptance and priority consideration for an overnight stay at UVA hosted by a SWE member.

Children’s Museum of Richmond- Snow Queen Scholarship Opportunity
The Children’s Museum of Richmond offers a college scholarship each year to a high school junior whom most exemplifies the character of Legendary Santa’s Snow Queen. The Snow Queen Scholarship is one of the few scholarships awarded to a high school junior and, in addition to college funds, it provides a year of community service opportunities with one of Richmond’s premier nonprofits to the recipient.
