Selective Service Registration Information

Registration with the Selective Service is a legal requirement for men 18-25 years of age. Students can pre-register at age 17 and 3 months, but registration closes permanently at the age of 26.  Go to SSS.gov to register online or find paper versions of the application form. Without registering, they cannot receive federally funded college loans and grants; are unable to get into federally funded training and certificate programs; are barred from all federal employment; are ineligible for many state and local government jobs; and immigrants- documented and undocumented- will have a 5 year delay in processing their citizenship application. Go to SSS.gov to register.

Please note: Another way a young man can register is to check a box on the application form for federal student financial aid (FAFSA). A man can check “Register Me” on Box #22 of that form, and the Department of Education will furnish Selective Service with the information to register the man.
