Academy Day 2018- March 24th
Senator Mark R. Warner invites high school and middle school students, their parents, and school counselors to
Academy Day 2018. Attendees will be provided a comprehensive overview of the United States service academies
and their admission processes. In addition, students will be able to meet with officials from all five academies
as well as representatives from ROTC programs, Virginia Tech, and the Virginia Military Institute.
Representatives from Virginia Congressional offices will be available to answer questions
regarding the application procedures for congressional nominations.

Engineering Open House at George Mason University
The Volgenau School of Engineering at George Mason University offers phenomenal opportunities for students who are interested in engineering, computer science, or information technology. The Volgenau School of Engineering is hosting two Volgenau Visit Days this spring. These special engineering open house events are reserved for high school juniors, and feature a complimentary luncheon, admissions and academic information session, a tour of campus, and an opportunity to meet with faculty members from our academic programs.

VCU Future Studio Program
The VCU Future Studio, a free Saturday sculpture program for Richmond teens, is now taking applications for the Spring session. The Future Studio is open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The program will run on Saturdays from 10am-3pm, from February 3rd to April 7th. The application deadline is 1/18/18. The Future Studio is a partnership between the VCU Department of Sculpture + Extended Media, ART 180 and the VCU Institute for Contemporary Art. The program is designed to give local teens the chance to expand their creative potential within VCU’s world renowned sculpture facilities.

The Writers Institute at Susquehanna University is offering an opportunity for high school students interested in Creative Writing.
Call for Submissions for the 2018 edition of The Apprentice Writer.
· Submission period runs January 1st through March 15th.
· The submission process is now completely online. Students can go to The Apprentice Writer webpage (www.apprenticewriter.com) or directly to the submission page at https://tinyurl.com/apprenticewriter2018
· one outstanding writer and one runner up will be recognized in both poetry and prose. The outstanding writers will receive $200 each and runners up will receive $50 each.
