Exploring- Law & Government Program
The law firms of McGuireWoods and WilliamsMullen are collaborating to offer a Law & Government Exploring Post for high school students to learn about the different career fields in Law. The information and orientation meeting will be on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 6:30pm at McGuireWoods Law Firm, (Gateway Plaza) 800 East Canal Street, Richmond, VA 23139.

UVA Society of Women Engineers- High School Visitation Program
The Society of Women Engineers at the University of Virginia invites high school sophomores, juniors and seniors to apply to the High School Visitation program on Saturday, November 17th, 2018. The program gives young women a comprehensive look at the different engineering fields and UVA’s engineering curriculum through informative speakers, panels, lab tours, and hands-on design activities. The program is designed to benefit participants with all levels of engineering experience, but targets those students who are not yet familiar with the field and may be interested in applying to engineering schools or pursuing a STEM career.
To apply, students should complete the HSV Fall 2018 Application which can be found on the UVA SWE Website (https://www.virginiaswe.org/hsv).
This fall session particularly targets high school seniors, but sophomores and juniors can also apply. Students who have previously applied to HSV, are in the targeted grade level, and demonstrate a strong interest in engineering through their essay will receive priority acceptance and priority consideration for an overnight stay at UVA hosted by a SWE member.

Children’s Museum of Richmond- Snow Queen Scholarship Opportunity
The Children’s Museum of Richmond offers a college scholarship each year to a high school junior whom most exemplifies the character of Legendary Santa’s Snow Queen. The Snow Queen Scholarship is one of the few scholarships awarded to a high school junior and, in addition to college funds, it provides a year of community service opportunities with one of Richmond’s premier nonprofits to the recipient.

NYLF-Medicine
The National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine is currently accepting student nominations for summer 2019.
The program is a nine-day experience that provides the opportunity to learn and practice medical techniques at a state-of-the-art simulation center. Students will gain an understanding of what it takes to be successful in medical school and discover a path to future medical careers. There will also be the opportunity to experience life on a college campus at one of many program locations around the country. More information can be found on the following website:

The American Line Builders Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program (ALBAT) will begin accepting applications on August 20, 2018.

Seniors: College Application Work Session Opportunity- Aug. 7th
Seniors:
The counseling department will be hosting a College Application Work Session on Tuesday, August 7th from 9am-noon in Godwin’s library. This will allow you to get a jump start on your college applications and essays with the help and guidance from several school counselors. Please bring a laptop with you to access the online applications.
Please note that we will have informational meetings on all things college related early this fall for parents and families to attend. We look forward to seeing seniors on August 7th!
