HCPS Teacher Scholars’ Program

Attention seniors!  Can you imagine how great it would be to start your freshman year of college knowing that you had already secured a full-time job upon graduation?  High school seniors within Henrico County Public Schools have that opportunity through a program called the Teacher Scholars’ Program.  The program is a homegrown way to address the need for teachers in content areas where there aren’t enough qualified applicants.  The school division is experiencing teacher shortages in math, science, Spanish, exceptional education, technology education and family and consumer sciences.   And when you have secured your teaching license and begin employment with us, we throw in an additional $5000 to help you transition to the working world!  The program is a no-risk opportunity for students with an interest in teaching.  If you get to college and decide teaching is not the right path for you or you decide not to return to Henrico County, you may opt-out of the program at any time.  Stop by the school counseling office to get your application.  Applications and all accompanying documents should be submitted to your school counseling office by March 17, 2017.
