HCPS closed for Students Tuesday, January 26, 2016

Henrico County Public Schools will be CLOSED on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. Employees: Code 2 (12-month employees report two hours late; all C&M employees report on time.)

As we have stated in the past, we ask that all 12-month employees exercise caution and take their time on the roads Tuesday morning. However, we also realize that some may not feel safe to drive. Please know that you are welcome to take annual leave if you prefer not to get on the roads.

Also, if you see a member of your school’s C&M team, please give him or her a pat on the back for the tremendous efforts being made to prepare approximately 70 school sites for the return of all employees and students. It’s an enormous job to clear all those parking lots, bus loops, sidewalks and walkways. We are hopeful that conditions will keep improving so that we may welcome back everyone as soon as possible.

For students preparing diligently for their midterm exams, no decision has yet been made to alter the schedule. If such a change becomes necessary, we will let you know.

Katie Hennessee named Merit Finalist for YoungArts in the Visual Arts Category

Congratulations to Katie Hennessee who is a 2015 merit finalist for YoungArts in the visual arts category! The National YoungArts Foundation identifies and supports the next generation of artists in the visual, literary, design and performing arts, assists them at critical junctures in their educational and professional development, and raises appreciation for the arts in American society. Each year, there are approximately 11,000 applications to YoungArts from 15-18 year old (or grades 10-12) artists, and from these, approximately 800 winners are selected. We are so proud of Katie for her hard work and talent displayed to achieve this award. Kudos also to our amazing CFA visual arts teachers Mary Scurlock and Genevieve Dowdy who provide excellent training and development of our young artists.
