New varsity quarterback adapts to level of play

by Akiah Moore

In his first year playing varsity football, junior quarterback Tim Minor is not intimidated.

“Everyone hasn’t played varsity. They’re new like me,” Tim said.

Coach Stu Brown said that Tim has adjusted well to varsity play.

“He is young and trying to learn a complex offense while playing at a high level. I am proud of how he has adjusted to playing against a high level of competition that he has never witnessed before,” Coach Brown said.

Three-year varsity wide receiver Donovan Dowling said that Tim is growing with every game and constantly gets better.

Running back and senior Herbert Anderson said the team supports Tim.

“When it comes to a tied game or overtime, he may be nervous and pressured. But it’s up to the team to make sure he’s okay,” Herbert said.

The team, which had anticipated an undefeated season, was disappointed by a loss to Atlee High School (31-28). Tim said that even losses create stronger bonds among teammates.

“We all have to work on communication and hustling,” Tim said.

Coach Brown said that Tim has a goal for himself.

“We have a strong tradition of some very talented quarterbacks, and Tim wants to be mentioned in that category. He needs to continue to just do what he is taught, and the game will slow down and become less complex for him,” Coach Brown said.
