New strategies lead to JV girls’ success on court

by Jamie Lund

The junior varsity girls basketball team (13-2) is happy with their performance and feels destined for success next year, too.

“The team will have talent next year because the freshmen we have this year have lots of talent,” sophomore shooting guard Dyamond Jefferies said.

Coach Victoria Ferris implemented many new plays to help the team win.

“We have many plays that work best for our success on the court,” Coach Ferris said.  “Many of the plays are designed for both guards and post players to score.”

Some of the plays are named after colleges such as Cincinnati, Ohio, Georgia, Clemson and Mississippi.

“Clemson works every time,” Dyamond said.

Many players said their improved defense has been another key to success.

“We stay in our zone, and we make sure that no one can get past us,” freshman post Sha’Dia Hood said.

“I think that defensive skills have improved in all of the players because we have held every team under 40 points every game,” Coach Ferris said.  “I also think that the shooting skills have come along while this season has progressed.”
