Practice pays off for JV team

Practice pays off for JV team

After the JV football team (6-1) won their first district game against the Lee-Davis Confederates with a score of 30-0, being undefeated in the district became their goal.

“We don’t want to lose a district game,” Coach Keith Stainker said. “We’re probably one of the toughest districts in the area.”

In their first game against the Dinwiddie Generals, the Blue Devils won 30-14. After the first game, the team had some things to work on in practice.

“We just went through more discipline to keep our minds focused,” freshman corner Darrell Woodard said.

Freshman linebacker Brydon Carroll said practice focuses on teamwork rather than on individual improvement.

“We work better as a team,” Brydon said.

The team reevaluated their game plan after a loss to nondistrict to Hermitage and won decisively in their next game against Lee-Davis while holding them scoreless.

“We worked hard in practice, and we performed in the game,” Brydon said.

Coach Stainker said the boys are learning and developing their potential as they go.

“We’re just going to continue to get better every week, and hopefully we’ll reach that goal of being undefeated in the district,” Coach Stainker said.
