Lesson Summary
Students will collaboratively work to plan, design, construct, and market mini cornhole boards and bean bags to raise money for the wood lab at Glen Allen High School. The lesson will develop in a few stages. First, students will collaboratively plan the project. Mr. Edwards marketing students will work with the Woods 1 student to discuss and plan ways to market the product. Woods 1 students will then follow through with the plan by designing and creating the products. During this process students will practice prior learned mathematics skills to design and measure the product, while also learning the proper use of the equipment needed to make the product. Once all products are completed, students will market the product by broadcasting the boards on social media, The Glance, the school website and posters hung around the building.

Rating:Entry – Explanation: Students acquired information about regulation sized boards and bags to plan for their own boards and followed instruction and all procedures to complete the project.
Communication & Collaboration
Rating: Ideal – Explanation: Students collaborated with peers in marketing class to brainstorm, plan and reflect on marketing strategies for the product. Woods 1 students then, in teams, developed the product and followed through on marketing strategies. These marketing strategies included communicating about the product via social media, The Glance, the school website and posters hung around the school.

Rating: Developing – Explanation: Students problem solved when planning and implementing a strategic marketing plan. Through the creation process, students were met with obstacles they had to overcome as a team in order to create a final product that passed quality control.

Rating: Approaching – Explanation: students analyzed marketing trends in order to brainstorm a marketing plan for their products. Students also created products within assignment parameters in order to support future projects in the wood lab.
