Lesson Summary

This lesson examines how media influenced society in the 1920s. Students make presentations teaching the class about movements and events in the 1920s. Media in the 1920s allows for more people to be exposed to these movements. Students show contemporary reactions to these movements and events through modern media sources such as Instagram posts and stories. Students embed these into their presentations to show their classmates the reactions of different factions of society.

Each group picks their topic through an essential question for each movement or event in the 1920s. The teacher models one topic for students so they understand exactly what was asked of them. Students then receive research questions to guide obtaining information for the topic. Students are instructed to create a presentation on the topic for their classmates, using the information from research questions. The teacher advises students that their information should allow their peers to explain the movement or event and describe the significance of the movement or event to US history. Through their peers research and presentations, classmates are able to answer the essential question for the topic.

While groups are presenting, their classmates are completing a graphic organizer that asks for a description of the topic, significance of the event, and a response to the essential question.
