Summary
This project was designed as an effort to encourage speaking, listening, reading, and writing among 82 ESL students ranging from grades K-5 at Three Chopt and Lakeside Elementary School. The cumulative project, being presented at the school’s Health and Nutrition Night, is an alphabet museum of healthy foods. A shoe box representing each letter of the alphabet will be displayed at the “museum” and a QR code will link to the students’ collaborative digital projects.
Tasks among grade levels and ELP levels varied, but each student had an important part in this project. Students in grades K-2 collaborated in making short books using the Book Creator app on iPads while focusing on writing and speaking. Using an online search, students in grades 3-5 found a recipe representing a letter of the alphabet, evaluated it based on its nutrition level, displayed it in a creative way by using Pixie, and shared information on reading recipes through a recording.
