Summary
Students are given the following scenario: What if our famous Virginians had Facebook? Facebook is a forum for communicating with friends, co-workers, as well as creating interest groups that can push an agenda. Students work with a group to make a Facebook page for a famous Virginian from the Virginia Studies 6 unit. Students must be able to justify their choice of friends and posts.
Students are given a rubric and access to a variety of research tools. They must create roles for one another within the group to cover the following topics: Personal Information, Education and Achievements, Friends and Status/Comments information from a time period specific to the VS 6 unit.

Research & Information Fluency
Rating: Approaching – Explanation: Students are provided search engines and print material for research. They determine which digital and information sources are most appropriate to complete their portion of the projects. Students construct their own questions to address what information they will need. They then assemble and organize this information to create their Facebook profile.
Communication & Collaboration
Rating: Approaching – Explanation: Students establish their own groups and use the rubric and Facebook page template to organize roles to address each task. Students use Google Drive to facilitate collaboration.
Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
Rating: Target- Explanation: Students need to use critical thinking to decide what important accomplishments should be shared about their famous Virginian and how it contributed to the creation of a constitutional government in the United States. The status of each Virginian and comments chosen to be shared should be elaborated on and statements should be justified.
Creativity & Innovation
Rating: Developing – Explanation: Students work on the given task that uses technology to incorporate historical facts into a personalized Famous Virginian Facebook profile.
