Summary

In this lesson, students will present the business plans that they have created with a partner to a group of “investors.” The students will defend their business plans by responding to questions posed by the “investors.” The students will receive immediate feedback from the “investors” through the use of a Google Form that “investors” completed during the student presentations.

Research & Information Fluency

Rating: Ideal – Explanation: The students are presenting the research they have completed previously in creating their plans. The presentation documents that the students have assembled and synthesized the collected information that they are now presenting to the investors. Students use a variety of tools from PowerPoint presentations to Google as video production and website design software to present their information.

Communication & Collaboration

Rating: Ideal – Explanation: The students chose appropriate digital tools to communicate and collaborate with their peers. Students also collaborated with teachers as well as district specialist in the presentation and delivery of their business plans, as these individuals served as our guest “investors.” Students also were able to reflect on their overall presentation as they reflected on the outcomes of their presentations with the investors.

Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

Rating: Ideal – Explanation: Students were able to answer questions and utilize their problem solving skills as they answered the questions posed by the “investors.” Students were able to provide documentation through their presentation to answer questions posed by the “investors.” Students were also able to reflect on their roles as critical thinks and problem solvers as well as set goals for how they would present their business plan if they were to present it again.

Creativity & Innovation

Rating: Ideal – Explanation: Students were able to take the basic requirements of their business plans, create a creative way in which to present their plans to the audience. Many going outside of the required elements to include aspects such as websites and commercials. A group even decided to bring in a sample of the product that they were pitching their plan for. Students took risks by the additions that they added to their plans, by simply being brave enough to present on a stage in front of 8 potential “investors,” while also adding elements to their presentation that were not required in the plan, but that the student thought was necessary in the selling of their business plans. At the conclusion of the activity, students were able to reflect on the creative process that they had set out in their business plans.
