Transcendentalism and Today’s Student – 8127

Summary

In this lesson, students connected art and music to Transcendentalism by creating their own artwork to represent what Transcendentalism means to them. Students had a wide variety of options from which to choose, including music videos, original songs, original drawings, and photo collages.

The teacher modeled annotation and other strategies. The task promoted synthesizing resources (artwork, song, analysis) and the students had freedom to select which digital tools to use in creating their projects.

Collaboration is not an area of focus. Communication is used to present projects and class feedback is given.

Students selected the digital tools needed to create a project showcasing their work. The task was authentic and promoted critical thinking and problem solving.

The teacher created a task that gave the students opportunity to respond to this task with creativity and innovation. Students selected appropriate artwork and music related to transcendentalism, and incorporated their choices into videos orcollages. Students had freedom to choose their tools. Students had to present their projects to the class, and defend their selections and choices.
