The Yearbook in Translation

Summary

Students are on the school yearbook committee and have been asked to work on the “Student Memories” section of this year’s edition.  Their contribution must include at least six school-related  graphics.  Four of the graphics must be accompanied by written captions, and two of the graphics must have audio captions.

TIPC Ratings

Though this lesson could be modified to include Research and Information Fluency, this lesson currently does not focus on that category.

Approaching –  Students are leading group decisions regarding tasks and roles.  Teacher provides format suggestions but facilitates group collaboration and supports students’ original ideas.

Approaching –  Students must plan carefully what to include in the space provided, how to communicate the information meaningfully with what they already know and how to provide the information as requested.  Teacher encourages and supports various ways to accomplish the task.

Approaching –  Teacher provides an expected framework including appropriate content to be included.  Students can interpret expectations on a personal level and the amount of choice in this assignment is great.  Teacher comments to students, “There is a whole lot of room to be right on this assignment”.
