Express This, Equate That… What’s the Difference?

Summary

Students will work individually to research and then in small groups to collaborate and discover the difference between an expression and an equation.  Research will consist of discovering definitions as well as practicing writing examples of an expression or equation.  Each group will demonstrate equations using manipulatives as well as present to the class. The presentation will count as a quiz grade.

Developing – Students selected partners to work on completing part of this lesson.  They were using Google Presentation to facilitate collaboration, they were not given other options for presentation type.

Approaching – Students will extend knowledge and skills in practical ways to solve real world problems. The teacher provides the activities, experiences, and feedback needed for students to develop questioning, critical thinking and problem solving skills. The students had to justify their work as other classmates would solve their problems or ask them questions about their presentation.
