Making Music: An Audio Comparison

Summary

Students will work in groups to create an original sound recording. Students will then compare the recording process with that of a professional musician.  Finally, students will reflect on the skills required for a professional recording musician.

Not a focus of this lesson.

Ideal/Target – Students are using appropriate tools to record their music.  They are reflecting on their skills.  They are looking far into the future and analyzing the skills needed to become a professional musician.

Ideal/Target – Students are creating sound recordings of their own playing (which they have never done before).  Working in groups and then performing in front of the class while recording is a step outside of their comfort zone.  The digital recording is concrete evidence of their work.  Again, students are looking far into the future and analyzing the skills needed to become a professional musician.  Most students have a hard time looking ahead to the next concert, let alone 15-20 years into the future.
