Summary
After discussing American Indians and the interactions they had with European explorers, students worked with a team to perform a pre-recorded newscast of these cultures and interactions. Students were divided into five groups. Each group was assigned one of the five American Indian tribes discussed in class (Inuit, Kwakiutl, Pueblo, Lakota, and Iroquois). Each member of the group was responsible for one of the 6 news stories. The six news stories reported were breaking news, weather and geography, fashion, food, home, and sports/ interesting hobbies. The students combined their pre-recorded broadcasts into one complete news story for each tribe and presented their video to the class.

Students were responsible for contributing to the group news broadcast. Questions were created and answered based on knowledge needed to create the broadcast..
Approaching: The student groups were formed using aspects of personal choice and strengths andd weaknesses determined from Sternburg Learning Porfiles and Learning Modalities. Students were able to communicate and collaborate with their team members using GoogleDocs.
Approaching: Students used their knowledge and understanding to create a news broadcast that gave a true representation of the characteristics of each tribe.

Students worked on the news broadcast blending technology (Windows MovieMaker, GoogleDocs, and online research) with aspects of personal choice to generate a news broadcast for their American Indian Tribe. Students created meaningful, original work within the assignment parameters by creating their unique news broadcasts using the information required for each section of their broadcast.
