Summary
After learning some basics about modern-day Human Trafficking, students will research the topic on their own. Using facts gathered, students will create a 60-90 second commercial using Windows Movie Maker or any suitable program with images, music or narration & specific information.

The students researched the topic (Human Trafficking) with the freedom to select the most appropriate information & sources, then used their information (acquire, apply) to create an original TV commercial (authentic task) that was then used to publicize the issue (using information fluently) of Human Trafficking. It was telecast on Herm TV (Hermitage High School’s cable TV network) to advertise and generate interest in attendance at our “movie night” (movie: “Not my Life”) at the start of the Prevention Project. In addition, senior students conducted a year-long study in the Humanities Center to create awareness of the human trafficking issue.
Students formed groups and then assembled and organized the facts into a commercial (authentic task). In addition, they used digital tools (of their choice) to display the information as a commercial that was shown to the class and to the student body via Herm TV, the school’s cable TV network.
Students used information to make a commercial (authentic task; digital tools) that answers questions about Human Trafficking (responded to purposeful questions; higher order thinking skills).
Students create a meaningful, original commercial to educate the public on Human Trafficking. As a culminating activity, students view their classmates’ commercials and select the best ones to air on Herm TV (the school’s public TV forum for sharing information. After the commercials aired, students reflect on the creative/innovative process via class discussion.
