Summary
Studies show that using music in education increases a student’s memory ability. Henrico County Public Schools also has a long standing recognition for its music program. Therefore, Henrico County Public Schools has assigned our class the task to create and share an original geography song with the other third grade students in the county to help engage and teach the various geographic terms. Students learned about geography using a variety of reference sources. The students worked together define important geographic terms. The terms they discussed were used to write a song. The students had their choice of using Comic Life, Keynote, Pixie, or Video Camera to present the information. Projects will be uploaded to the class blog for sharing and continued discussion.
TIPC Ratings
Students will select appropriate digital tools to assemble, evaluate, and utilize information by choosing their project format. Students apply varied research skills through the use of various print and online resources. Students use information and resources to present real world 21st Century projects.
Students initiate communication in real and non-real time through the class blog and Google Docs. Students collaborate and solve real world problems and create original works when they write, perform, and create their songs about geography with their group.
Students can choose from various 21st Century skill based projects for the planning and design of their projects. Students use technology to collaborate when they are researching and choosing the design of their project. Students select which information is most important to be included in their project.
Students apply critical thinking skills and research methods to create original and group projects which showcase learned knowledge of geography skills. Students use various computer based programs and online resources to research and create their projects. Students collaborate effectively with an audience beyond the classroom on the class blog and Google Docs.
