Summary

In this lesson, students research and analyze poetry and song lyrics, share the poems and lyrics with the entire class, and then make original poems using lines from each others’ poems. Students make recording of their poems include appropriate music and oral presentation techniques.

DEVELOPING – Students selecting and critiquing poems from a variety of online resources. Students choosing appropriate music and images from online resources.

APPROACHING – Students using collaborative documents and digital transfer to communicate and collaborate with each other and the teacher. Students working in collaborative teams to create original poems and recordings. Students collaborating with other students of diverse cultural backgrounds, leading to collaboration with music and lyrics from other countries and in other languages.

APPROACHING – Students analyze poems and song lyrics for poetic devices. Students select lyrics from multiple songs to put together in a way that creates new meaning. Students reflect on product using a rubric.

APPROACHING – Students applied critical thinking through poetic analysis and thematic matching, research techniques using multiple online resources together, and communication tools, including Google docs and VirtualShare to create, share, and evaluate original, student-created poems and recordings.
