Summary
In conjunction with our class novel study of Louis Sachar’s Holes, students will emphasize and
practice the reading strategy of “visualization and drawing conclusions”. Through group
discussion, modeling, and representation students will attempt to truly recognize and understand
the length, width, and depth of these holes, from the point of view of the main character,
Stanley Yelnats. Using, Mosaic of Thought students will be led to make texttoself
and text to real world connections. As a result of this lesson, students should draw conclusions
and realize the intensity of labor that Stanley and the other campers experience while digging
holes at Camp Green Lake.
