Although the majority of the work was completed individually, students used several digital tools (Google docs and ActivEngage) to communicate their feedback this class assignment.
Students used critical thinking and problem solving in multiple ways for this lesson. First, students had to evaluate how capitalization rules were employed in a sample sentence that was posted in a shared Google presentation. They then would correct the sentence and justify their answer by referencing the associated capitalization rule. Next, the class evaluated the work of each student using Activengage to provide student feedback for each work sample. As a summative assessment, students reflected on their role in a non traditional mini lesson as compared to a mini lesson using Google Docs. This helped students begin to determine when to use digital and when to use traditional means of instruction and is an effective way.
