Summary
This lesson was to have students create a schedule for a week off from school in Spanish. They have been learning vocabulary about places you “are going to go” and the grammar for how to say the different locations. This lesson involves students using newly learned vocabulary and grammar as well as pulling from old vocabulary and grammar that had been learned. Students used the website prezi.com to create this project. They had to plan what they were going to do for the week and design a schedule online. They had specific information that they had to include, and were told that anything extra (videos’, extra photos, music etc) would be extra points for their project.
TIPC Ratings
While all strands of the TIPC are important and should be addressed, this lesson is focused on Creativity and Innovation. There are ways to increase the level of Research and Information Fluency but they may not tie as closely to the learning outcomes focused on in this lesson.
Approaching – Some students self-selected partners from within or outside the class to create dialogue videos. This added personal value and meaning to their project. They made decisions concerning the creation of the project establishing their own norms and expectations to complete the video. However, for this assignment they did not collaborate on the final product, each student used the video in their individual prezi.
While all strands of the TIPC are important and should be addressed, this lesson is focused on Creativity and Innovation. There are ways to increase the level of Critical Thinking and Problem Solving but they may not tie as closely to the learning outcomes focused on in this lesson.
Target – Students were creating original meaningful work using their knowledge of the Spanish language including interrogative phrases and future tense. Students created their own schedule for the week and communicated that plan. Students created or found images to illustrate the events. The teacher created an environment where the students were engaged and felt secure enough to try new ideas as well as feeling comfortable enough to ask for help if needed.
