Solving the Hardships of Jamestown – 4456

Summary

The purpose of this project was to allow students to demonstrate their knowledge of the hardships faced by the Jamestown setters and to use critical thinking skills to develop a way to solve one of the hardships. After researching more details about the hardships, students created a way to prevent or solve the problem by using only tools and resources that would be available to the settlers. TIPC Ratings

Students researched the hardships of Jamestown based on classroom instruction. As a class, students brainstormed research questions that could generate a solution to each hardship. Students decided where to go for their research and what presentation source suits them the best. Students will also generate the own questions to ask students in England.

Students chose their own small groups to work with and worked together as a team to decide the roles of all participants and how they would equally divide up the tasks. Students shared their ideas and used the rubric to guide their final product.

Students applied prior knowledge and gained research to solve real world simulated problems that were faced in Jamestown. Students brainstormed questions to guide them through their research. Students had to problem solve together to find a solution to their hardship by using only resources that would have been available to the Jamestown settlers.

Students had to use their creativity to prepare a paper slide video to present their problem and solution. Students chose their materials for making the slide (handmade or technological).
