Logic-Mission Possible

Summary

Students will explore their available resources to find out about Syllogism and the Law of Detachment.  Once they have discovered the basic information, they will work in a group of 3 to develop a product to demonstrate each law of logic (syllogism and detachment) as well as one that does not fit either of these laws. These products can be created with any multimedia presentation tool (Blabberize, Prezi, PowerPoint, MovieMaker, ActiveInspire, Poster, ComicStrip, etc.)  These products will be shared with the class to demonstrate the 2 different laws of logic and to help students to identify the differences and similarities, as well as identify which is which.  At that time students will share the products and determine which law is represented or if it is neither law.  Students will also discuss the products to determine the accuracy of the demonstration/example.  Other examples will be shown, like the Direct TV commercials in the Syllogism format, provided by the teacher, as well as pictures books like “If You Give a Moose a Muffin”, or “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie”.
