The students are engaged in creating an artifact that incorportes their understanding of the concepts taught, but allows them to demonstrate their own creativity and critical thinking.
The students are sythesizing the information that they have learned and going beyond the level of “grasping” the concepts by being empowered to make their own decisions as if they were preparing to hibernate. The students reflect on their critical thinking when they explain to the class why they chose to build their nest with certain materials and why they chose certain hiding places for their winter food. Throughout the lesson, the students were generating their own questions making their own decisions as teams. They were given freedom of choice and the ability to generate their own ideas and explore them as well.
