TIPC Ratings

Approaching: This lesson falls into the low-end of the approaching domain of the TIP-C. Students constructed their own questions about the Dewey Decimal system to research. They were provided with some print and digital resources to use for research, but were given OneSearch to use to locate information and images as well. The project was framed as an authentic task.

Approaching: This lesson falls into the low-end of the approaching domain of the TIP-C. Students worked in teacher-selected teams due to mathematical and reading ability; however within these teams students established group norms and organized roles to address an authentic task. They utilized a blog to facilitate group collaboration as well as communicate with the school librarian on various elements of the project.

Approaching: This lesson falls into the high-end of the approaching domain of the TIP-C. Students generated and responded to their own purposeful questions. They were required to not only justify their decision-making but how they as a group arrived at that decision. They applied digital tools to solve an open-ended authentic task that required higher-order thinking skills and reflected upon their role as a problem solver and critical thinker.

Approaching: This lesson falls into the high-end of the approaching domain of the TIP-C. Students had to analyze trends they found in the Dewey Decimal system and the connections they found in the decimal system as a whole.
