QR Codes & Fairytales

Summary

Students worked collaboratively to create projects based on fairytale books. They selected from a range of books based on individual reading levels. Students created a Pixie tombstone for the main characters of their stories. Then they created am iMovie interview with puppets they created representing the main characters from their stories. As an extension activity, students were selected to work with an ITRT to create a QR code that could be taped to the book so children or parents could scan the code with an iPod or iPad and view the projects.

This lesson scored at the Entry Level in Research and Information Fluency because students researched various fairy tales using books and web resources selected by the teacher.

This lesson scored in the Developing Range for Communication and Collaboration because students worked in teacher-selected groups and published their work be viewed by other students, teachers, and parents who checked out the books with the QR codes.

This lesson scored in the Developing range for Critical Thinking and Problem Solving because it addressed an authentic task, motivating other students to read the various fairy tales.

This lesson scored in the Developing range for Creativity and Innovation because students were given freedom to create their project within the parameters established by the teacher, using Pixie and iMovie.
