Summary
Students will participate in a research and collaboration project centered around an interview theme to better understand certain citizens who defended basic principles-(Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness; Equality Under the Law) while strengthening research, collaboration, and presentation skills. Students will pair the reading of an autobiography or biography with digital research conducted through One Search / Encyclopedia Britannica and Third Grade Website (Famous Americans.)
Using their background knowledge and research, students will create an interview representative of how famous Americans worked for equal rights/defended basic principles. Students will generate questions/answers using prompts that foster critical thinking skills. The teacher will brainstorm some questions with students on the promethean board to get them on the right track.
To conclude, students will record their interview using Photo Booth (one person will be famous American/ one person will be reporter). Students will have an opportunity to attach the video interview to Activ- Inspire or Keynote and add pictures/ words to add to their presentation.
Once completed, students will comment on the class blog about presentations for others to comment on. Some presentations are posted on blog using Vimio. Students will have opportunity to share presentations with other classes and will present in front of their classmates.
TIPC Ratings
The teacher provides students with criteria to help students direct research. Teacher assesses student performance daily to keep students on track. Students select appropriate tools (digital resources, OneSearch, and print) to create an interview displaying contributions.
When researching they are told to focus on information directly related to task. They must decide what facts tell them how their famous America worked to defend our basic principles. This will involve collaboration between the two partners, making sure they get relevant information. I will guide them in their research.
Once done collecting facts, they will generate questions/ answers together to make and interview / script. I will provide them with sheet that has simple to complex questioning prompts. Students will have opportunity to comment on their classmates presentations using the blog.
Teacher will provide ongoing feedback throughout the project to assess understanding and project development. The students use various resources to research and present interview. The students use higher lever questioning to generate interview questions that relate to task.
Students will generate questions and have opportunity to present interview in a creative way. Students will make an Activ-Inspire or Keynote presentation when finished with interview.
